One day, someone said that meta title is the most important SEO label.
If you use it, you will be able to make your content relevant to the search engines.
That Google will give your pages a higher position in their results.
And that your site will begin to receive visits once and for all.
Well, that person could not be more wrong.
The myth of the meta title tag
Like so many other SEO myths, the meta title tag has come together quite well. And the truth is, it’s hard to explain why …
Perhaps it is because of its resemblance to other more serious meta tags, such as meta description, or meta robots. Or maybe because of the hype and cymbal that continue to give many misinformed “experts”.
The fact is that the meta title tag has no use. Using it does not increase the relevance of your pages, nor improve your position in the rankings.
And do you know why?
Because the search engines do not take it into account. Instead, pay attention to another more important label …
The title tag
The best place to find out about valid HTML tags is W3C. (In case you do not know, W3C is an international consortium that produces recommendations for the Word Wide Web, and is directed by Tim Berners-Lee, the very inventor of the Web.)
If you take a look at the recommendations for HTML documents, you will see that meta title does not appear anywhere. However, the title element is mentioned.
